Whitton is an area in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It lies on the A316 leading to the M3 motorway and is less than 10 miles from the M25. It has a population of just over 20,000 people. The town centre obtained a £2 million programme of economic regeneration back in 2014 including new street lighting, pavements plus a £5 million redevelopment of the railway station.

Whitton's railway station is operated by South Western Railway and is on the Windsor Line with a 30 minute journey into London Waterloo. Note that the stopping service takes 40 minutes via Richmond, or 50 minutes via Brentford. To connect with the London Underground, travellers must connect via Richmond (District line) or Hounslow East (Piccadilly line).

The River Crane is a tributary of the Thames and runs 8.5 miles. You can walk along almost 6 miles of it through a mixture of parks, woods and forests. Crane Park encourages much wildlife, being home to a number of protected species such as bats and common kingfishers. Marsh frogs and water voles now breed on the banks of the river. 

Bushy Park is the second-largest of London’s 8 Royal Parks and is just north of Hampton Court Palace in Richmond upon Thames. It offers waterways with fishing and model boating ponds, gardens and horse rides, wildlife conservation areas, and herds of both red deer and fallow deer.

Richmond Park is the largest of London's 8 Royal Parks and is just over 8 miles from Whitton. It is a National Nature Reserve with protected status as an important habitat for wildlife, a Site of Special Scientific Interest and a Special Area of Conservation. Enjoy the ancient trees and woodland as well as savour the view of  St Paul’s Cathedral from King Henry’s Mound.

Hounslow Heath covers 200 acres and offers a large network of paths for walks and hikes. It is a designated local nature reserve and Site of Metropolitan Importance for Nature Conservation. 

Chase Green in Twickenham can be located between Redway Drive and Godfrey Avenue, next to Chertsey Road (A316). It's a nice spot to picnic, dogs can enjoy being let of the lead and there is also a children's playground.

Heathfield Recreation Ground was opened in the 1930s and is laid out to accommodate sport pitches and a pavilion. It also boasts a wildflower meadow, fresh air fitness equipment, a multi-use games area, changing rooms, one full sized football pitch and one junior football pitch with play equipment for children under 13. There is also a sensory trail and footpath. 

Kneller Gardens was opened in 1931 and is part of the River Crane walk, connecting with Crane Park to the South West and Mereway Nature Park to the East. Good for ball games, other sports and dog walking, the area offers a cafe, changing room, 2 mini football pitches and a full-sized football pitch, There are 4 tennis courts, table tennis, basketball court, outdoor gym equipment and play equipment for under 13s. 

Murray Park was opened in 1914 and has a children's playground, mini skate park and plenty of open space for ball games.
